Accessibility statement

This statement applies to BriefCycle — the assessment moderation system for coursework and exam papers.

How accessible this system is

BriefCycle is built to conform to WCAG 2.2 level AA. It has been developed and tested to:

  • work with a keyboard alone — every control is reachable and operable, with a visible focus indicator and a “skip to main content” link;
  • work with screen readers — pages use headings, landmarks and labelled form fields, and the workflow grid announces each stage’s status in words, not by colour alone;
  • meet AA colour-contrast in both the light and dark themes;
  • respect the operating system’s light/dark and reduced-data preferences;
  • resize to 200% and reflow without loss of content.

Known limitations

  • The embedded document viewer (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) is provided by Collabora Online, a third-party component. Its accessibility is governed by that project. Every document can also be read or, where permitted, downloaded outside the viewer.
  • The wide workflow-overview table scrolls horizontally on small screens. The same information is available on each assessment’s own page, which does not require scrolling.

How the system was tested

Automated testing with axe-core (WCAG 2.1 and 2.2, levels A and AA) across the main pages, in both themes, alongside manual keyboard and structural checks. The operating institution should record the date of its most recent test here and re-test after significant changes.
